Okay so I'm buying some cheap HID's this round. I had the same issues I did with my Retros as I did my eBay kit. So I figure I'm going to go the cheap route this time, and buy the cheaper kit.

But I would like to add an inline fuse and a way to ground the units. I am buying the cheap plug and play low beam kit, so all it does is plug into the stock wiring harness. How do I go about wiring this up how I want it?

Also, I have a 21.5" LED bar I'm gonna throw on it. What temperature would match the output color of the LED's? 4300K, 5000K, or 6000K?

The harness with your kit should have a fuse and be grounded already.
If not, get a better kit.

The standard low-beam kits don't come with any. Even my $180 low beam kit from Retro Solutions didn't come with any.

Why you want to run low beam only?
My bi xenon Retro harness has fuse and ground.
Lights won't work if not grounded.

What were the issues? A lot of my friends use hids from hidkits.com and love them. My DDM tuning flicker and act stupid and that's with a relay harness.

Cause the high beams are useless. I had both a BiXenon and a low beam kit on my last truck. The high beams were worse than low beams.

And they work fine without separate grounds, they would just work better if they had an inline fuse and a separate ground.

One would fire, one wouldn't. Turn them off, same thing, but would flip flop. I found that if I let the truck idle for a few minutes before turning them on they would both fire instantly.

The inline fuse and a solid ground fixed my issue on the main headlights.

I'm just wondering how to wire this with a standard low beam kit.

I think I am going with DDM's here soon. What Ebay kit are you looking at?

I've had good luck with my Retro's. I know a lot of people have had good luck with DDM as well. Comparing the light output quality of my Retro 6,000's 55W headlights to identical DDM lights, the Retro lights were much cleaner and clearer.

I'm confused.
Lights just don't work if they're not grounded.
I haven't seen a harness that doesn't have a fuse built in.
As for the ground if there isn't a seperate wire for it then they are probably using the metal ballast case as the ground. A poor connection will give poor performance.

Adding a fuse and ground wire is simple but will cost you $$. A high quality harness is $40 or less. I'd rather just buy one.

Retrofit HID bulbs should work perfectly in your housings. If they don't then the bulbs are very low quality or installed incorrectly. You may still need to re aim after install.
My kit is from the Retrofit Source.

Did you have the harness that connected both ballasts to a battery?

I'm running two seperate cheapy ebay kits on both my bronco and the fogs. Both came in packages from china. 2 years later they fire up quickly, no flicker nice color and clarity. Both kits together were just half of the retros and my ebay kits are half the size of my retro kit. I can no longer justify the cost of the retros when the ebay is half the price, half the size and the color and performance is as good or better. I had the ocasssional fail to ignite or flicker w/ the retros.

I have not been able to unload the retros I have, even for 50 bucks. I'm at the point I'll use them for a project vehicle. $ wasted IMHO.

My headlights did, but not for the fogs.

Yeah, I'm planning on buying the $30 Xentec kit.

A good friend of mine had those xentec on his Chevy maybe 2 months and 1 bulb or ballast would not work. Not exactly sure which it was but I know he only had 1 headlight and he said he's gonna go back to regular bulbs.

Even with Sylvania Silverstars my headlights look dim compared to the 55 watt hids I have now. I would have a hard time going back.

You might want to look into at least getting a better quality relay harness that connects direct to the batteries and already has the ground and fuse your looking for.
Some ballasts will draw a lot of current when they first fire up. It might be too much for the stock or kit harness and they won't light like they should.

The harness I got from Retro Solutions worked but the wire gauge was too small and easily damaged, was also just long enough to reach but not routed the way I wanted.

Lots of Superduty's driving around with hids you should be able get some to work too.
