Like the title says I need to get new shocks fast. My steering box took a dump on me so it is in the shop right now and the mechanic says he will throw the shocks on for free for me. I am torn between the Bilstein 5100's and the 5160's. I am leveled with 37" Trail Grapplers. I have heard good things about the 5100's, the only negative thing I have heard is that they can rust and pit. I would have to assume that is happening to the guys up North. Since I am in Texas I am thinking I wont have this problem. The 5160's look nice but from what I understand they are just about double the price since they are a remote reservoir. Some one said that the part number on the 5160's for the superduty are more specifically tuned for the truck than the 5100's, not sure if this is true or not. I don't go off road much, just tooling around my construction site and going hunting. My main goal is trying to improve ride quality on the road.

What do you guys think is my best bet? Does anyone know of a shop that can get them to me quick? Thanks for your help in advance.

Trevor at Precision Metal Fab recommended that I go with the 5160's. He said they will ride better than the 5100's. I believe it too because I have never liked the way my truck rides with 5100's. I also trust Trevor's judgement. He's been great to deal with.

I think you have to call and order them from a vendor that deals with bilstein constantly to get the SD valved. A generic part number wont have them valved that way

Yall recommend all four corners for the 5160's? Or can I get away with the 5160's up front and the 5100 out back to save some coin?

If you wrap the body in clear 3M you wont have to worry about them. I know on some trucks that I had the 5100's on with out the 3M they would dull. Bilstein recommends to wax them, but I just said forget it and lived with them like that.

You could also do the Fox 2.0's that are valved for the SD they run $119.95

and get them through top gun customz

I am having a hard time finding any information on the Fox 2.0's. I know Fox makes good stuff, I have their coilovers on my Scout. Do you think they will improve my ride?

We have installed a few on some customers trucks and they ride good.

We carry Bilstein, FOX, ICON and King. For my money and everyday drivability I would say Bilstein or ICON, ICON being my first choice ( very very very nice ).

Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks

Im really interested to see someone with some real opinions on the 5160s. Ive read a lot of good reviews on them and watched some videos on youtube about them. Ive been on the edge on ordering them though because I might want to lower my truck from 2.5" level to stock or just lower then stock and I dont know how those 5160s would be with a truck thats lower.

We did some on a members truck, he has a ICON 4.5 with a 1" spacer and 5" deavers in the rear. It rides nice but not as nice as the ICON 2.5's in my opinion. We just did a full ICON kit on a 6.4 and I literally just got done test driving it and it soaks up bumps like your riding on marshmellows but you dont have a lot of body roll. I'm digging is so much it has me wanting to swap out my lift for one.

I have the 5100s on my truck, I wouldn't own another set. They rusted and oxidzed, they look like chit. I had to spend a couple hours power polishing, then waxed em, they look good for now. My next shocks will be Fox or Icons.
