Getting ready to start dyeing the interior pieces on my truck to black. I know Powerstrokekid87 did his ex-cab 6.0l awhile back and his turned out really clean. Have any of you guys done this stuff before? I haven't. I know I'd like to have as much info as possible before starting. Do's and Don'ts, etc., Any special stuff you guys have used that made the job easier/cleaner? It honestly doesn't seem that intimidating but I definitely only want to do it once lol

Powerstrokekid87 gave me this link for supplies. Anybody else use them? they seem pretty legit

**on edit- feel like I should mention Im only dyeing the plastic pieces in the cab(dash, door panels,etc.,). The carpet, headliner, seats, etc, are all being taken care of elsewhere.

LOL I have done so much of this it aint funny....

Hey bubba.. you first need to start clean, I like to use mild soap (read dish detergent and water) and clean first... everyone likes armorall... :)

then I use a good quality wax and grease remover..... very very small amount goes along ways... I dont use much most of the panels are already painted in some way don't want to get crazy taking off finishes... only removing wax/armorall...

I prefer SEM products, and BULLDOG adhesion promoter.... both are spray cans and easy to use...

1 medium wet coat of bulldog... then start spraying you color ..... that easy bud.... really not that much to it..... I actually use a mini touchup gun and buy it sprayable, and dont use cans... but get the same finish either way...

as i said, i love the results of my interior, could not be happier, and products were easy to use, but as WACKERJR says, prep is key!

I do a lot of this also. Wackerjr covered everything pretty good. I also use a lite scotch brite pad and scuff everything. You can not be to clean and after its clean dont touch it in any way before spraying. Also, light even coats. I spray the edges and work my way to the center. It usually seems to take 3-5 coats depending on how big the area is, and I like to allow 2-3 minutes between coats at normal room temp.

On edit. SEM is a good product and I have dyed a descent amount of leather. With leather it seems to work a lot better with it very warm. The only downfall of doing leather that I have seen is that it seems to wear a little quicker then the OEM color.
