Recently went through this debate on whether to remove and prep the stock Platinum grill or purchase the PTM prepped grill from Ford and paint it. My dealership's paint and body shop highly recommended I go this route. They painted several chrome and Platinum grilles in the past and initially they come out fine, but peel pretty bad from rock chips over time. I agreed as I had a 2010 F150 Platinum with a PTM grill and it looked great at first, but after about a year it started peeling bad.

Wanted it done right the first time and so far no regrets. It cost me an extra $150 for the new grill, but worth it to me.

I have been running a PTM for 40K (etched & painted the chrome) just make sure you add a 3M clear bra or equivalent otherwise rock chips will destroy it in a month
