Lift pump install?

Got a fuel lab setup halfass on. Wondering about the factory return. From what I'm looking at, does the factory pump push fuel to the filter and return back? I have the return from the fuelab hooked up but now wondering what you guys are doing for the upstream return?

Upstream return would be off the regulator to dial in your pressures...
