Trying to chase down an on going issue. Trans shifts/locks up normal under 0-100% throttle BUT the truck is reving at 99mph under full throttle, once I let out of it and coast back down I can feel what I think is the converter locking back up at 80-85mph. At 99mph the truck will still pull if you stay in the throttle but its just not near as hard as I know it should. I think this may be an solenoid issue as the truck has shown a code in the past but does not regularly throw the code. I will also say 30% of the time the truck will lock in and pull like crazy above 100mph.

The only other symptom I have is when rolling into the throttle after lockup (46-55mph) the truck will sometimes come unlocked then re-lock shortly after.

I have myself convinced that I should swap the tcc/od/intermediate solenoid - whats everyone else think?

Sorry if I'm a bit unclear - can be hard to get the issue across via text.

Thanks.

You know I know nothing about 6.fo's but just an Idea... Is it possible to put a lockup switch on it and see if you can keep it manually locked at those points? Then you can better run down if it is a sensor/ solenoid issue?

Just experience from my trans struggles in the past few days, I've found anytime you can try to override things manually and send a known signal to the PCM etc. you can kind of narrow down where in the circuit the problem is occurring.

I hate to resort to this but... It just might not be able to turn 20's that hard at higher speeds.LOL

Ouch Cyrus!

I'd be all about a lock up switch although I havnt heard of them being used on the 5r, guess we will see.

Yeah, I'm no trans guy but basically almost all electrical funtctions in an E4OD are simply Grounding circuits to actuate functions from what I've seen. Maybe its the same on the 5r?

Do you know anyone who builds them who you could call for a schematic?

Or put it in drive and start grounding wires in the trans harness untill it lurches forward and stalls out. LOL

What codes are you getting? did you do any pump mods when the trans was out?

Doesnt throw a code unless you continuely romp on it, I have the code wrote down somewhere from acouple weeks back but when I searched last time it lead me to the tcc solenoid being faulty. No codes sense I swapped this solenoid in yesterday.

Yes the trans-go pump mods were done - maybe the pump has an issue and under the extreme load/ condiitions it cant keep up causing the unlock? Sucks if the trans needs to come out but im tired of not being able to go over 100mph...

also seems with tow haul on the problem is delayed or lessened.

There is a pressure test port on the driver's side of the trans, towards the from, just above the pan. Many people put the temperature sensor there.

Bump - Been talking with Matt from gearhead and he suggested I data log rpm slip/input speed to see if my od clutches are slipping so thats what I will do tonight. Anyone know how much pressure I should see out of the test port? thanks

Difference of engine rpm to input shaft speed (converter not locked)
Difference of input shaft speed to to output shaft speed (clutches slipping)

Since devices display this differently, figure out what the normal speed ratios are for each gear being monitored by running in the desired gear with the converter locked.
