I did scuff, degrease, and dye the clip on the lid too as mine was grey from 15 years of orange pumice and paint thinner hands pushing on it. Used the gloss black, and then a matte clear over it. I wanted contrast in some pieces and I thought the textural difference between flat black vs gloss black would be enough. It wasnt and looked weird so i hit everything with matte clear.
