odbii reader not reading

I have a scangaugeII which I have heard a few members say it works fine on their 1997 which is what I have. Scangauge says there are exceptions on 97 Ford Diesels, but I imagine it still works just not all functions?

I am trying to get mine to read on this new to me truck. It just says connecting. So I know its getting power.

I tried a reader from O'reily Auto parts and it couldnt connect either?

I checked the fuse in the dash and it had a 10AMP fuse which was blown but then had a small wire taped between the terminals as if someone bypassed a blown fuse ??

Any rate i put in a 15 amp fuse like the manual calls for and still no luck.

Any suggestions on where I could start looking to correct this issue? I just want some kind of reader to work.

Did you check to see if your cigar lighter works? It gets its power from the same fuse as the OBD II port.

I did not. I will check that.

I would think if the scangauge turns on its getting power, its just not communicating with the PCM?
