odd running truck

hi all, my friend just picked up a boone stock 96 250 reg cab with about 170k on it. The problem is the truck started to run like the map sensor quit working. So he put another one on and it would not go past 2500 rpm weather in nutral or reverse. So he disconected it and now it runs fine, so what could be the problem with it running like this?

When he disconected it it goes into defualt mode. Since it cant get info from that sensor to make fuel maps it goes to a defualt one. The MAP sensor probobly wasnt bad in the first place. Plug the sensor back in and get the truck scanned. Most likely another sensor is messed up. Also check the UVCH's make sure they are all plugged in a no bad wires.
