Good oil doesn't shear in a 7.3, 6.0s are a different story. I use bypass filters on everything from diesels to 10 million dollar turbines. We did a test on some loaders at a mine in Colorodo. All three loaders went 50 plus thousand hours before the loaders started falling apart around the engines (no rebuilds, 1000 plus hour oil changes). That is stupid longevity. The reason is that particles that cause wear are between the sizes of 1 and 6 microns. Most factory filters nominal 20 micron with a beta ratio of 200 at the most. They are far from what is needed for very long life. You can't just change your primary filter as it will cause a pressure drop tot he bearings effecting hydrodynamic film strength. Bypass is the way to circumvent this. It works, but only if properly designed.
