Oil change cleanliness

Do you guys have any tips on how to keep the oil coming out of the oil filter from making a big mess? I hate having to clean the cooler lines, oil pan, crossmember and radius arm. Any ideas?

sometimes I drill a sheet metal screw in the bottom of the filter an then pull the screw out.. then when its low enoght put the screw back in an remove the filter...

Whs! ^^^ I love my quick drain valve! And either one of those filter tricks works well!

What advantage does that valve provide other than making sure you don't drop the bolt?
