when you go to a higher stall converter do you have to essentially mash the pedal to the floor more to get the truck moving and up to speed? or does tuning take care of that in some way?

the way i have always understood stall speed is that if you go a bit lower than stock then it will take less throttle to get up to speed from a stop. i understand why you would want a higher stall when you go to a single or go to a bigger turbo, just not sure how it affects drive-ability as far as getting the truck moving from a stop.

The higher stall will help get the turbo spooling earlier. That coupled with good tuning makes the truck a lot more drive able and lights faster.

from the bottom end it really isn't that bad. It just the mid range that has hesitation lighting. We'll see how the trans helps out. I've been tossing the idea around of doing a ball bearing turbo like coltons or custom compounds. If that happens the motor will be coming back out for pistons.

With a large non vgt single like Randy's running, your not going to have instant spool up or the strong low end torque that compounds produce. No way around that. All that can be done is good custom tuning a constantly swapping stalls to see which one works best for your charger. Even my ball bearing charger doesn't like to spool at 70mph on the highway. The charger needs high RPMs to spool to its full potential. Which will probably be from 3500-3800 from what I can see. At 2500 you'll see boost start to come on as long as your in the throttle a good bit. The key to making this setup is smoke free tuning like Matt is doing. An 80mm charger isn't the best for daily driving. If someone were to ask me if I'd recommend it for the street, I would tell them to stick to a 72mm at most, or a properly sized set of gated compounds.
I myself like how a single makes torque so brutally. I can easily drive my truck on the street with no problems, but spool up just isn't that impressive and the truck isn't my daily driver. If it was my only means of transportation, I'd pull the single off and go a different route.

The only time mine is a true daily driver really is in the winter. I swap back and forth between my mustang and the truck. Can the truck be daily driven? I feel with the right tuning and convertor yes. Ps thanks for all the help Colton

Yes it can be daily driven without a doubt. It's just not going to be the most responsive 6.4 in your area lol. No problem bud. If you ever have questions, feel free to shoot em my way. You got my number.

Thanks guys. I can't wait til the trans is done. If I pick it up Friday and having everything tuned pretty close I may swing down to the east coast nats and see what it runs. Nick, since we're on the topic of convertors what stall were you running?

You don't need anymore than a 2200 rpm stall if you have a decent turbo... King Kong spools a s475/92/1.10 t6 and a 98mm garret thumper turbo with a 2200 stall order Brian's 118-3 converter is the best converter for single turbo trucks starts out loose and gets tighter as you spool

I'm running a s480/87/0.9 with a billet wheel. I get one free stall change with the precisions. I already ordered the precision but if it doesn't work out ill try the one you recommend Craig.

Lol I can't wait. The in cab video you'd see is me sweating my ass off. Haven't gotten my ac recharged yet and it was 95 degrees today. Not a fun 3 hour trip down in the truck lol. If the convertor comes in ill have it this weekend.

Lol it's actually last on mine. Would hate to get it charged then pull the ac lines off again for something, which I actually did when I pulledy injector lol. Hoping to get the ac done next week. Btw you pulling at Bedford?
