Has anyone ever attempted or ported a intake manifold themselves? Can it be done with normal grinding equipment? I have ported motorcycle heads before so i can some porting experince. I was debating on buying a used one to attempt to port it. I just didnt know if i would be wasting my time as i only have ordinary grinding tools. I will most likely just end up buying a ported one.

If you have the ability to cut the top off of the manifold to grind, then reweld it go for it. I will be making my own, but I will only be drilling out the columns.

:whs: you have to cut it at the factory welds and get the stuff out in the inside. For the price that they get sold at for most it's worth just buying one.
Unless you get creative and make your own intake manifolds like a couple guys have done

The guy building it and i are messing around with the idea of some how feeding to the back of the manifold as well, thats why we are doing it ourselves. Otherwise for the price id probably pick up a rcd manifold.

Midwest also has one now and so does elite. Their all pretty close in price/design for just machining out the stand pipes.

Yeah is relatively simple if to have a mill and plunge out the stands. You still have to go in and touch up the insides. We have the option of just milling the center stands out or all of them.

Here's a pic

We opted to use pipe threaded 3/4 anodized aluminum plugs and tap the manifold to accept them. Keep in mind these are more of a budget manifold. We can go further on the porting if requested but its not an option on the website.

What kind of gains will be seen just removing the stands? How about with the next stage up? What kinda prices are we talking? I really want to get a ported intake but hate to spend big bucks. Is there a core? if so how much does that run?

Your benefits would be lower egts, better flow to rear cylinders that's about it. Price $600, no core. N for the most part you gotta pay to play.

Im adding an intake to my build list. Any idea what the best one is? I see RCD has a nice one, Elite has 2 to choose from and the Midwest one above it looks like.. Elite has a claim of an added percentage of flow on theres but I didn't see that on the RCD unit..

LoL. Pick one in your budget and buy it from who you think deserves your money. They all do the samething with the exception of Elite's fully ported intake, but then again it's also the most expensive.

All the stand ported intakes are similar. Ours are fully ported with all the stands removed. We make them from new intakes unless you want to send yours in and have it done. Otherwise the old ones are not cost effective to clean and reuse. If sending in your old one it would knock $50 off the price.

The ones we offer will outflow stock heads so unless you have big valve ported heads then these are more than adequate.

You probably can't go wrong with any of them. Just ask that whoever you choose try and support a PSA sponsor on here!
