Whats the goal for the truck? I tell everyone that wants a bigger turbo that if they are not running race tunes and wanting more power, theres no point to spending money are a bigger turbo. If my truck saw the egt drops that everyone claims for different parts. I would be pulling hills at about 500 degrees.

I didn't know how to describe it , my truck came with I guess the elite upgraded one?? Idk, it's a decently sized elbow. Almost the same size as the no limit elbow. It doesn't have that down size that all the other intakes have.

But I have no clue what upgraded intake it is so could only describe it as "largest afe" lol

Yeah that's elites afe upgrade , where if you already have an afe you can't spend $250 and get elbow and filter.

hmm...Is this just a full shot in the dark guess or do you have any data to lead you to this guess?

I'd do intake and exhuast mani's and intercooler before an upgraded turbo considerig the OP only usually runs a 80 or 160 tune.

Also, upgrade your down pipe if you haven't done it yet.

OP - I think the 73 will also probably pull the filter in on an S&B intake.

no my buddy put an atmo on his f450 on 24's with 35's and it made a huge difference with egt's, and gained a decent amount of power, I did an intercooler which was a lot cheaper and saw decent egt drops, but not quite as big as my buddy saw with his truck with his elite 72, a down pipe has minimal gains for anything, egt's drop quicker when you let off but overall egt's were about the same. same with the cold side kit, overall my buddy said the best thing he has done so far is the atmo turbo upgrade, he didn't notice the cam, he didn't notice the cold side pipe without a dent in it, he didn't notice the exhaust. and this a guy who built a 9 second mustang from nothing, and an 8 second all motor gsrx 1000 on a stock size tire. so he's not clueless.

I realize that....I should have been more specific....does anyone have data that demonstrates 73 is the cut off for stock HP turbo other than using an ~ 20% rule.

We have tested and our 76 made gains over the 72 with the stock High pressure turbo. If you up the high pressure you gain even more if you have a 76. In our testing the 20% rule has proven to provide the most power.

Man I do not see a lot of logic floating around in this thread besides Ipkyss....

Obviously we need to hear from the OP but judging on his hazardous mentality why on earth would a 72mm be the best upgrade for this guy? If he wanted 60hp more why not press the damn up arrow or whatever bottom sends the Mini Max to the next tune? Just doesn't make any sense as far as spending the next chunk of change for this truck to be a 72mm. Unless....

1. Stockers are blown
2. He doesn't really care what we say
3. ... I can't think of three...

If the OP wants a good reliable cool running truck.. airflow, low tunes, and done with it..

Maybe someone can prove me wrong but how is a 72mm on an 80hp tune better than a stocker with both manifolds, no limit piping, and no limit intake on a 80hp tune?

Again maybe my logic is wrong but OP could remove weak points (poor manifold flow, and up-pipes) instead of wasting money on potentially another weak point (seen alot of failing modified turbos lately)

I'm gonna go with #2 since the OP hasn't posted a reply in this thread since he started it LOL

Thank you. I am very happy with gains in power going from your 71 to your 76. I am sure my stock VGT is leaving a little on the table including higher EBPs. The biggest surprise I had with this swap is that the EBPs didn't get that much higher. Of course, I am now gated and would recommend that on a stock valvetrain with my current turbo setup (stock VGT/JHP), but I have made WOT runs where the gate didn't open and have been happy that EBPs didn't get more out of hand....which was the reason for my original question. I do plan to do a 59 when funds permit.
