Hey guys, stock Trans, Gearhead tuning. over night it started having a delay when I shift in to reverse. With that delay there is a bit of a shutter that rocks the truck slightly as it goes in to gear.backs up fine once in gear. Oil and filter was done at Ford last summer.

Any thoughts?
Thank you!

could be a couple things, directs being one of them and the pump being the other. If you start the truck and let it warm up for say 30 seconds does it do the same thing?

If the direct clutches are shot, wouldn't it not drive? It runs and shifts fine..backs up fine, once in gear.

Does it cold, hot, always.

Might need to hook a pressure gauge to it and check it further to see if it's a pressure issue

Mine did the same, progressivly got worst the following 2 weeks affecting all gears eventually I lost reverse and 5th gear going down to MPD. I started getting clutch material on the end of the dip stick 1 week after reverse started slipping.

Should I replace the direct drive solenoid? I was hoping someone could tell exactly what this problem is, Ide life to fix it if possible before I loose the Trans all together..

Mine was doing the same thing. Just got all my parts together and will get the truck back Wednesday. It was doing the reverse thing and drive fine. Until recently it started slamming gears and Rev slamming. Then lost first through third gears while it was hot. We'll see what this fixes

So given the fact that my Trans runs flawlessly other than having a shutter when it engages reverse, nobody thinks this is simply a solenoid that can be replaced to fix the problem?

Not a solenoid. Clutches or low/reverse. Mine was the entire reverse clutch pack and the molded piston was trashed. Convertor was toast, and convertor bolts were rolling around in the case.

Well we noticed it didn't really do it when it was cold. Thought maybe I could luck out on it being a weak reverse solenoid. Turns out the reverse solenoid and the direct drive work together. Replaced both of them and upgraded the direct drive while in there. All the fluid still looked good. Did not fix the reverse shudder problem.
