I know this is kind of a dumb question but what psi of boost is safe while towing etc? I have seen 43 ish while towing on a grade.

correct. but on stock Turbos thats pretty much what works. i have seen some trucks at about 525 live for a long time. but fail pretty quick for any time over 550 so i would pull back to 500 to be safe.

The tune I use everyday is a 96hp tune. At least that is what I was told.

and cylinder pressure increases with power (assuming injection timing is reasonable)

Very true. I've just never been fond of going by boost or hp since every truck is different. Personally studs are something you should do anytime you're going away from stock in these trucks. Studs are cheap.

I tend to disagree on tune-only trucks. I just don't see blown head gaskets on them unless they're outright abused. I've seen more cracked pistons on tune-only trucks than I have blown head gaskets. Like WAY more.

On basically a deleted close to stock tune I agree, but how many people throw on bigger tunes and can keep their right foot out of it. I've been trying to since I don't want to risk 2 motors in 1 year LOL

maybe I'm just lucky, but I run big tunes in all my 6.4's and typically floor it to pass at least 10 times a day.

I've got buddies who, in my opinion, abuse their trucks... guys who couldn't keep heads on a studded 6.0... they'll crack pistons and/or roach transmissions, but not a blown head gasket between any of them on a 6.4

YMMV :)

I've heard of and seen a few blown head gaskets. But you're right it seems like more trans or piston issues
