Shifting questions

Ive been messing around with the shifting tunes on my truck. I originally started out with X street on Stock/delay and the shifting seemed to me to be very harsh. So I switched to Xstreet with firmer delay same issues. A few weeks ago I had to pull my boat a fairly long distance so I loaded up the street tune and left it on firmer delay. It shifted a lot better but I got some messages on my message board. So I switched the tune from street to Xmild and left the trans on firmer delay. This was the best the truck has ran since I tuned it, ran great minimal smoke and trans shifted damn close to stock. Well today I decided to load the X RACE with race lock and go see what it had. I went through the trans learn procedure that is on here, and the shifting was just short of violent. I have heard many people say they run that combo for DD, but the way it was shifting there is no way I could deal with that. So I get back home load back to X MILD with firmer delay. Go back out and go through the learn process again, the shifting calmed down but it was still not as good as it was before I switched tunes back. Im completely stumped on what is going on. This is my first tuned auto, so maybe I just got used to the smooth shifting of stock, or maybe there is a problem with the tune???? I dont get any CEL's or messages in the message center(except for what I mentioned earlier). If I am lightly getting into it the first 3 shifts seem really harsh, and the last 2 shifts smooth out a little. When really getting on it, it is pretty similar except 3-5 shift a lot better. Any input would be greatly appreciated.. Sorry for the long post

Edit: just took it back out and shift from 1-2 was pretty good, 2-3 was a bit harder, but 3-4, and 4-5 was pretty smooth. On Xmild/ firm delay

It sometimes takes longer the the "relearning" process in my experience

I drove it around for almost 2 weeks, until I switched from X street to the Xmild tune with the firm delay and it never changed better or worse. I can tell when running on the current set up that the shifts are a lot firmer but they are smoother than what they are on any other X tune i have. Guess I will just have to run this tune as my DD.

What is your relearn process? Are you doing like 1/4 throttle run, 1/2 throttle, etc?

post 2. this is how you did it correct?

i had the exact same issues you did. change your tune, and before it moves for anything else, do these steps. the hard part if finding a road you can leave it floor board deep to actually click into 5 gear on that particular part.

it should also be noted, if you normal driving is easy as a dd, and you simply straight mash the pedal, it will shift hard like chit.

because it learned you to drive easy, and now it has to learn you to drive hard.

Ya, I was doing 3 times at very easy take offs and shifting through all the gears each time, then 3 times at about 1/2 on the take offs, then 3 times at heavy acceleration. Then drive around for a while driving normal then 3 take offs at WOT.

Yep, I have also tried this one as well. The only thing I didnt do was the part with the A/C. I will have to try that and see if that makes the difference. I dont necessarily run the chit out the truck on a daily basis, it spends most of its life in the barn, its pretty much a weekend truck for me. But when I have it out I run it

Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully one of these days I will get this Auto thing down, I really like the speed and everything else about it, but things sure were easier with the 6 speed just loading a tune and going.

my livewire sometimes does not put the tune that i select into the computer. I will select race lock for the tcm and it will be the delay tune. this happens like everytime i switch tunes. it seems like it has a glitch or just does whatever it wants and not what i tell it. idk if this is the problem you have or not

I have seen a lot of similar things with idp tunes, I ran the race and race lock for a long time, it takes awhile for it to adjust, but eventually will smooth out. Best tune for smoothness was mild and delay for me. And I have had it load the wrong trans file many times, mostly leaving stock trans file with race.

It could possibly be, The best way I can explain it is when it shifts it hits so hard it shakes the truck.

How does that do I was thinking about doing this as well, but didnt know if that would be a good idea for the sake of my trans or not. Now that I have it back to shifting better with the xmild/firm delay, I was thinking about switching back to the xrace or xstreet without messing with the trans file just to see what it does???

After I had my trucks strategy flashed back by sct, race lock smoothed out a lot, I don't know what the difference was, but after I pulled my lift that changed it too. I didn't mind how x street with race lock drove. I'm really hope idp's new stuff takes care of these issues. Kinda why I haven't had them loaded in my truck for months.

it should be noted that big tunes with race locks or real stiff shifts, can really be smoothed out by adding traction bars.

that is goin to be a large cause of most of your harsh shifting.

I never really thought of that. I thought traction bars only controlled things like axle wrap. Thanks for the info.
