Starving the Trans?

Evening guys,

Im in the middle of installing a 6.0 32 row trans cooler.

Ran the cooling lines in front of the cooler and between the plastic and the frame.

Should I be worried about splicing the 1/2 inch line into the 3/4? I used a Brass pipe fitting. Is the going to disrupt flow at all. On the return line, I placed a inline rebestos filter.

Im just wondering with the Brass pipe fitting, the filter and the line change, im going to be starving the trans of oil?

I may be over reacting, just want to make sure.

I think you are absolutely fine. An OBS only has 5/16 cooler lines if that helps at all.

No. If you're worried run new line from trans to cooler. All one size. There is probably about 30psi in the lines so it's going to move. Filter to.catch garbage from a used cooler?

The truck's cooler lines are 3/8", the lines on the cooler are 1/2". If the opening in the brass fittings are not too small it will be fine. I've looked at some 3/8-1/2 fittings at the hardware store and I believe they will work fine. I haven't looked at and 1/2-3/4 fittings.

If you have the factory bypass still on the transmission (and you should!) you can't starve the trans for oil. If the restriction in the cooler circuit gets too high the bypass opens so that the trans doesn't starve for oil. The trans will then get hot, so you have an indication that there is a problem.

Mark, should the cooler be mounted so the fittings are on top to allow air to escape, or it doesn't matter?

Air will escape no matter which way you mount it.
