Steering Box

Last night I believe I broke my steering box. I can turn the steering wheel with no resistance and the wheels do not move at all. I have been doing a little research on how much a new one is going to cost 500 or 600 just for the box for the factory replacement. Does anyone make an upgraded one? I figure if I am already spending this much if I can get a better one if there are options.

Autozone has a questionable re builder IMHO
I would stick with a Ford Reman

or a Redhead rebuild ..

I am lucky I have a great re builder in My state AZ Benchwerks

You can get the red head steering box at pretty much the same cost as the ford steering box. It's the same box they just upgrade the internals for tighter tolerances.
Last I spoke to them I think they quoted me 480, if I remember correctly. Maybe one of the vendors here have connection with them?

How is that 6.4 ? Looks like you already took all the fun out of it. I mean how are you supposed to drive around wondering whats gonna break while getting 5MPG? Lol. Just wondering what your MPG is up to with all that.

From what I understand on the red head you have to send them the box and then they rebuild it and send it back. I would like to use them since they probably give a better product but I cant be without my truck that long. I am going to have to get a rental car if I wait for the red head so a 480 dollar box will end up costing me 750.

The local Ford dealership has one. I am getting it later this afternoon and they are going to let me bring the core back later. I appreciate the help and info I just can't be without my truck for more than two days.
