The trans temp guage on my dads 02 f350 isnt working, I know this because the truck can sit over night and be ambient air temp but as soon as you get into the truck and start it the guage is half way up. Where is the sending unit at and what should I do to test it?

Thanks for the help, Vic

I'm pretty sure mine does the same thing, it's only at the bottom when I first start it in the winter. I want to say it reads the trans temp near the TC but I'm not 100%

The sender is inside the pan. The quick way to test it is to start the engine. If the OD light isn't flashing the sender is working fine.

The gauge is working as designed. As was said above if the trans is warmer than 50°F the gauge will be in the middle.
