I have seen the video back when you first posted it but couldn't view it today... computer issues. If it's not retarded late when I get home I'll try to get AE to connect (again) and if I can't I'll fiddle *** with it tomorrow after work some more.

I haven't pulled the PCM from my truck (stick) to try it in Joe's truck because if there is a wiring issue somewhere, I didn't want to fry my PCM and have my truck dead in the water. I have a spare PCM, but it's a 96 CA emissions PCM so it's basically useless (different pin-out)

The 2 times it has started has been completely random. No combination of swapping anything or wiggling this or saying the right swear words seems to make it start. Both times the oil in the pan was cold though, since it had only been cranked a few times (at best) before it decided to fire off. The first time it fired it hadn't been started or even cranked over in months. The second time... I can't recall but I think I had cranked it over a few times earlier in the day before it fired.
Any idea what the thread pitch/size is for the HPO lines?

Sorry I dont know it off the top of my head, napa carries them out here though. Take a line off at the pump and take it with you!

i was driving to a friends house and it slowly died out. once it died i tried starting it, it would crank over strong but would not fire.

I think Joe has you on the right track, but my point was: whenever you have a problem with a modded truck, go back to the last thing you did to it (mod or repair) and start there..

I'm hoping tonight to tinker on it some more, I'll start with trying to get AE to work so I can get a read on ICP and IPR DC% then get under the valve covers to see whats going on if its building ICP.

Thats why I still believe its an injector or injector O ring issue...

Need to know what ICP pressure its building... It could be a pump issue, but I doubt it, more so when it does start from time to time.

Same here. My SD went down last year in the same fashion. My winter oil (5w20) had run too long into summer and turned to black water in the incessant 107* heat. Oil change to summer 10w and it ran like a champ. Different scenario but same result...oil leaking past Orings.

More than likely if it is building ICP, it is probably not under the valve cover where your issue lies.
If it is not building ENOUGH ICP then it potentially could be under the valve cover. The issue is, which valve cover and is it truly under there or could it possibly be pump/IPR/front cover related? That is why I suggested blocking it off, you can narrow it down to which side of the motor OR neither of them. Helps a lot because once you start messing with things the mess gets that much more difficult to figure out...

Had a truck once that had an IDM **** the bed and was firing multiple injectors at once, try building ICP while that is happening!

I get where you're coming from Derek. I just don't think I can find anything to plug an HPO line off around here. Napa is about the only option.

Give it a shot. Worse case scenario, I can mail you the fitting you need. I was in hood river when I needed one badly and there wasn't much for shops open on a saturday, Napa had exactly what I needed. Most any shop capable of making hydraulic hoses will have it.

Update, got the truck running with an IPR swap and all seems well for the most part. It has a modded IDM in it and it did throw a P1298 on me once, and has thrown a couple other odd codes as well:

P1293 injector high side open bank 1
P1661 ouput circuit check circuit low input

Any idea what might be the cause for those two codes? Also since it did throw an IDM failure code I'm wondering if his IDM might be on its way out... it runs fine but the idle is a bit choppy, especially when warmed up. It seemed to idle smoother with a stock OBS IDM in it.

The choppy idle in my opinion is probably tuning related, the tuning has come a long ways since he had it live tuned. We gained some pretty good knowledge with those injectors having Bill behind the wheel. We have a van here now that idles smooth as glass.

Are those codes repeated or just a one time thing?

Tuning is part of it I'm sure, the IPR o-rings aren't in the greatest of shape and Joe thinks the injector O-rings may need to be replaced as well. I'm just glad it's going down the road under its own power again!

P1661 has come up twice now, P1293 was a one time deal. It also threw P0264, P0279 and P1271 once.

Now drive it down here so we can strip it out.

The only thing worth a **** is the turbo... maybe the injectors (big maybe) and the gauges...

The rest is just a whored out OBS...

Sorry Joe... LOL
