Swapping Powermax wheel to a MTW one, pointers?

I have read and some say its a quick job, others say take the turbo off, we'll my injectors are done and I don't want to reinstall all the drivers side parts until I get the wheel replaced. Show me the way PSA!!

I think he doesn't have a mtw turbo just a upgraded billet wheel for his powermax

thats what it sounds like.. and its a quick simple job to switch wheels.. just pull the face plate, use a 3/8 drive air ratchet and it comes right off, and when going back together just snug it up finger tight and give it a few hits with the air ratchet before putting the face plate back on..

And correct. I have a MTW wheel going into a powermax.

Your gonna have to take off the down pipe also to hold the rear of the shaft(exhaust wheel) remember its reverse thread.

not if you hit it with an fast rpms air ratchet.. it should come right off unless someone has put a crap load of thread lock crap on it..

Mine wouldn't come off with just a air gun. I ended up sticking a screwdriver in the exhaust wheel to hold it?

its either a 16 or 17 12 point on the shaft.

My Pmax turbine side wasn't willing to play. I had to remove both housing to get my compresser swap done. It has been WELL worth the effort. For my first reply it was a bit early for me.

Lol. The damn turbo is fighting worse than the injectors did. Up-pipe clamp won't release, can't get to the bolts for the compressor wheel, can't make heads or tails of where the mounting bolts are.

This was all last night so light wasn't great. I have been wrenching on the truck on and off for 5 days, till 2 am for two nights (damn carport mechanic) 100 degrees at 930 at night and a GF that needs a swift kick in the ass have set me back. Drags tomorrow so I need this done tonight.

I use a cheap craftsman screw driver that cone in a kit it has no handle and shaped like a z all metal to release the band clamps it works really well for that since I can't find another use for it

That sounds interesting. I am gonna soak it in WD-40 at luck and hope for the best tonight. This has been fun honestly doing it myself has got me thinking of using my GI-Bill to go to diesel trade school. I feel at one with the truck. Woosah, woosah...

Ok. A little pb blaster and a screwdriver solved the up-pipe issues. Turbo is out, what direction is the compressor wheel threaded? Reverse right PSE?
