I think the auto is a good option. I see people pulling with stock trannys, not saying its right or safe.... But throwing it in drive and letting the truck do its own thing seems easier...

As far as suspension wise. Shocks, id just get a decent set. Some all out people put extra shocks on the front. Im thinking the adjustable rancho 9000s might give you a little room to play? Almost everyone says you need weight, or strap it down, or the big thing is a 4 link to stop wheel hop. RCD sells a 4 link for like 1100 bucks?

It really all dependson how serious you are going to be pulling. I would take a manual every day over an auto for pulling. In the end I think the cost is going to be very similar. The manual will be way cheaper when you have to rebuilt the auto. As far as shocks go we have not been able to get a single shock to keep a truck flat. Installing a second shock out front has been the ticket for us. We have not tried a 4 link so I can't comment on that. But we can add a second shock for half the price. Other issues we have found is the 10.5 rear end pinion will not hold up long term. Also the factory lock outs suck and were breaking every few hooks. No one makes an upgrade so we made drive plates. These make it hard to steer so we add hydraulic assist steering and this works awesome.

ok thank you for the help i know you always pull good and i am serious about pulling !!! I didnt know that you could not get a upgrade lock in and out huds for it yet I thought you could get some for a dana 60 like they run on the gas pulling trucks. I also like the stand with a southbend clutch and i seen pics of the sus. in diesel power last month.

On the lock outs, in 2005 the outer axle shaft was changes from a 30 spline outer shaft to a 35 spline. The 35 spline outers are considered the Dana 70 upgrade that most pullers would do. Same thing the dodge guys have to upgrade to to keep their fronts together. You can get upgraded lock outs for 2004 and older.

I use my built auto. About 10 hooks every fall. I also set up an extra shock setup in the front. Super simple. Works good. I also added front lower trac bars to stop the pinion change too much. I'd post pics but I dunno how on a phone. I can text you them if you want.
