so i bought this 11 lariat about a month and a half ago. i dont have a long commute about 20 minutes so the truck doesnt always get up to temp if i drive straight home (average outside temps are 5-25 since i bought it). just about everytime ive ran errands after work it shows the cleaning exhaust filter message when im almost home. the first time i drove it 20 minutes after and figured it was done. then tried 30 minutes a few times. today i drove it 45 minutes after the message and was paying very close attention to the screen to see if there was a finished message like ive read about but i never saw it. i cant have more the 6-700 miles on the truck so i dont think its normal to see a regen this often and my mileage meter has said 13.9 but when i hand calculated it i got 13.1 which seems low which makes me think its not finishing regens and just keeps trying. i hate how the message is so fast im sure ive missed it a couple times too. do you guys think im not giving it enough time or the cold weather isnt allowing it to heat up enough? any sugestions would be appreciated.
thanks

Get an insight cts and it'll show when it's in regen. The old cliche is filter modification

The cts2 will allow you to do a regen on command , you will have to leave it in park and let it finish then you should be good for a few hundred miles till soot level gets in the 3.2 range and then repeat.

They regen like crazy if mostly driven on short drives like that. My trip to work is 35 miles but all side roads and slow speeds....it would regen about every 2 days and a regen would last about 30 miles. I would watch it on my Edge CS.
That's no longer an issue though...

Regens will definitely be more frequent during cold weather and short trips.

I wonder if the government is going to install massive d.p.f's on volcanos anytime soon? Lol

I can't speak so much for short trips, but cold weather extends the distance between regens for me. My 38 mile trip to work is mostly highway. Temperatures above 45 degrees or so and the truck will regen every 200 miles or so. Temps below 30 will stretch that to 500 miles, whether it needs it or not. I've seen regens in the past start with only 30% soot load. Warmer weather they start at 98% soot load.

ok well im planning to fix the problem all together in the next few months but for now just let it keep doing what its doing and try to run it as long as i can when i see it start a regen. will it finish if i leave it idle in park or do you need to be driving to generate enough heat? also is there forsure a message that says its finished or what?

The regen will stop after a minute in park.

What size tires and gears? Larger tires will cause more frequent regens.

The only way you'll know it's done is when your mileage starts increasing again. Take your bride to supper down the road 75-100 miles away. It should get a complete regen and then you'll be good for a while. Mine did the same for a while until I headed to Houston. The thing refused to regen until about 60 miles into the trip. Then ran for 30-45 miles.

33" duratracs

If you have 3:31s, that's your problem. That size tire I had a regen every 100 miles on back roads, 150 miles on the highway at 75mph. Switched to stock height (31s) and it's gotten a lot better, almost double. I still think 3:31s are just too high of a gear.

I was able to find the original window sticker for mine. It was 2 years ago so I don't have the website anymore. Should be able to Google "VIN decode." Or just try typing your VIN into Google.

Dealer should be able to pull it up for you. Just call and ask a service writer, see what they say.
