I installed the ts chip recently on my 97 with an E4OD. The transmission feels like they made the shifts softer not firmer in the tuning. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Maybe I need different tunes? I'm going to do a shift kit this weekend, hopefully that helps. Other than that I am happy with the extra power for now...

No one yet, stock files. I'd really like a burner so I can burn files they send me to it. Not sure who I should use. I have a gas tuner but no one who does my diesel.

I'm under the impression that the ts is loaded with generic tunes made by them . is that correct? Or does the place you get the chip from use their own tunes? All I had to tell them was the year, the trans and what I wanted on the settings. I know custom tunes are better for sure just thought it was weird that it shifted noticeably softer.

Yea I have always been confused on that like if I buy a chip from "ABC Diesel" that does custom tuning, does the chip come with generic TS tunes or does it come with generic
"ABC Diesel" tunes? I have been on diesel forums for almost 7 years and still don't know the answer to that

I was told 215$ for 6 custom tunes. Is this reasonable, I mean I have no mods done besides full exhaust and the chip. All I really want is the trans to shift better. Maybe the shift kit is my best option and go from there........decisions decisions

I bought both my ts from a very reputable shop with canned ts files on both, the shifts in my one are so soft it makes me wonder how much the TC is slipping during shifts. That being said the same files on my SD shifted so firm he 1-2 shift would throw you back with authority. I'm confused, and saving for the trans surgery.

I think it is a programming thing. I'm willing to bet another tune burnt to the chip will solve my trans issues, but at 215$ it may be worth me to sell it and get a hydra from the looks of things. I'm still going to take my valve body apart and do the shift kit for peace of mind to make sure the feed bolts aren't loose. My fluid is red not burnt and it shifts great with the chip on stock. At least I'm not the only one with the downey soft shifts on the ts

Who are you thinking about getting custom tunes from? Lots of good tuners out there, most of them are sponsors on this site. Lots of bad tuners out there that will give you motor a new ventilated crankcase mod also.

How many miles on your truck? A good set of tunes can make a stock transmission have a very short life. You need at least a good torque converter and some valve body mods. Or you can buy a already modded valve body and just bolt it in. Or you can spend a lot of money and buy a built transmission.

Personally, my favorite tunes are from Tony Wildman.

Lol ventilated crankcase, I had that mod on my focus when the boost controller malfunctioned, I'd like to avoid that on my truck. I really don't know much about the tuners reps around here, any input will be taken into consideration. Truck has 235k on it, runs like a top, its already had a reman trans at least once. I'm going to build it hopefully in the spring, maybe sooner, I'm very careful about when I get on the throttle too, being an idiot I'm sure the trans would have toasted already. I will do the valve body this weekend. Where can I find Tony? I'm still kinda new to this site. Thanks

Tony Wildman is Total Diesel Performance

http://www.totaldieselperformance.com/

Not the fastest turn around, tuning is spare time for him. his job and family is his full time job. it has been really full time the last year or so.

I can count totally honest men I have met in my lifetime on one hand. Tony is one of those counted. You can send your chip to him, he will burn the tunes on it and send it back. You may, on accident, get a different chip, you sent a TS and got a TS back, may be different brand of TS chip. There are a hundred same chips with different brands.

I own two chips. I can send one to him and still have a chip in the truck. Tony's tunes are not smoke free, if your truck is set up right, on had pedal, you will get a good puff and than clean up as your charger comes on line. On my all out race tune, it almost cleans up really fast, but is never smoke free. But smoke at the track is no issue. I can however, if I choose to, 100% black out and intersection and make a Cummings go home crying to his Momma. That's injectors, not tuning. If you let your RPM's get under the injector and throw the fuel at them, there will be smoke. Tony's runes call for fuel, not timing. I have been in this game a long time, I don't think I have ever heard of a motor blowing up and somebody blaming Tony's tunes.

Like mentioned above, Gear Head tunes are also very good. They are virtually smoke free.

I guarantee you, whoever you bought the chip from, off Amazon or fleabay, put the wrong PCM files on it. I've reburned probably 50 chips last year alone due to people wanting the cheapest possible price. You get what you pay for.

That's what I suspect, but quite a few people I know have had shifting problems on the ts files, quite possibly from what u stated. I plan on having it reburned from wildman, definitely ts is the cheapest chip out there but it functions well and can be reprogrammed. As I said I'm new to the diesel tuners and reps and whatnot, And if I had to do it again i would go straight to Tony. Live and learn I guess, believe I'm not looking for the cheapest way, I know that never ends well.
