I'm wanting a chip for my completely stock 02 f250 (other than a Walker BTM). No gauges as of yet so I will only be running very mild tunes. I might get custom tunes burnt down the road but for the moment I'm wanting to just run canned tunes. I can get a TS with selector for around $225 shipped or a Hydra for $375. Which ones of these seem to have better canned tunes?

Depends on which canned tunes. I had a TS6 with php canned tunes and upgraded to Hydra and loaded the same canned tunnes. The cool thing is with the Hydra you get access to the library of canned tunes and can load and unload tunes thru a usb cable without even removing the chip at no cost. Get the Hydra it's also easier when you want custom tunes as any tuner who builds tunes for Hydra can email you a tune and you download it from your laptop to the truck. It's easy just make sure to buy the extension cable it's like 25$ extra.

That sounds like an EBAY price TS chip. You will get 2004 (latest revision date) TS tunes. A lot has changed in the last few years, so 11 year tunes are ridiculous to run. Will it work, yes.

This boils down to the same conversation we have everyday with customers. They ask for the best possible product on the market for their truck, but then buy the cheapest thing they can find. Just depends on which customer you want to be.

I agree with the Hydra.

I am running a TS chip with Tony Wildman tunes on it.

If I had it to do over again, I would have a Hydra with tony Wildman tunes on it.

Just for the sake of ease of a one time installation I love my Hydra not to mention you can get pretty much whoever's tunes you want and load them on in about twenty seconds!

The whole canned tunes thing is a total joke...

People need to understand they are all canned tunes unless you are live tuned or have special revisions made.

If you call up Swamps and ask for a TS chip for an NVK truck, they are not going to sit down and write you 6 new tunes for "joe blows" truck. They will drag and drop from there file of NVK tunes and click burn.

Same thing if you get a TS chip from EBAYPERFORMACE...

The difference is TS has not updated there tuning in years, as Tim mentioned most are over a decade old.

Wildman, Swamps, PHP, Powerstruck, Gearhead, DI, and on and on... These guys are continuing to adjust, tweak and play with there tuning.

The Hydra is the best hardware on the market. It comes with access to some of the best (arguably) tuning on the market. HOWEVER... If you dont like a tune that you pull off the server, you can delete it and load another one yourself... Want to try a Gearhead tune, make a call and a few hours later you have a tune in your inbox... a few minutes later and its on your chip.

Hydra. End of story.

Just to add a note to that...

The ebay and amazon sellers 95% of the time burn the wrong hex or PCM code to the chip... causing all kinds of issues.

Yep, the custom tuners you mentioned are always tweaking their tunes from live tuning sessions.

Or experimenting on their own trucks.
