A friend of a friend wrecked his '96 F-250 a few weeks ago (fell asleep at the wheel and rolled the truck on it's side) and pulled the engine and trans. It was a good running engine and the truck only had 160k miles on it. He told me that he would sell both engine and trans to me for cheap, but I'm just curious how much they are worth, specifically the engine. My understanding is that it's a complete engine, oil pan to turbo.

I was just looking at an engine and asked about the value. Most said anywhere between $500 and $1000. Some also said that they were worth less. I didn't end up buying it, but the guy sold the whole truck for $900, so I don't know????

Well somebody else ended up beating me to the punch and bought the motor alone for $1500. The fella told me he would sell me the engine and transmission together for 1000 so I think I missed out on a pretty good deal.

:whs:
I agree with $1500 for a good runner. We have three E-Series to part out with good 7.3 Powerstrokes in them.

The value of a 7.3 engine (and many other things) depends on location, availability, demand and condition. When it comes to cars, trucks and some parts, they are worth less if they are from the rust belt states.

I know where i can pick up low mileage complete 7.3's for under $1k all day, err at least as of last year, but on average used ones around here go for $1500+
