I am looking for a semi-floating 10.25 axle. My questions are:

What did the semi floaters come in?

What gear ratios are available?

Are the ring and pinions interchangeable semi/full float?

Can a 10.5 ring and pinion fit in the 10.25 semi-float housing?

Basically I would like to have a semi-float axle with a 3.05 ratio.

Thanks!

I found this on the Sterling 10.5 axle's Wikipedia page. No idea how accurate the info is but could be a starting point of where to look.

10.25 Semi-float

The semi float variation is less common and was used in F-250 trucks with a lower GVWR (7200) This stopped in 1993 model year trucks until the generation change. The 10th generation Ford F-150 offered this axle in the light duty F-250 trucks from 1997-1999. For model year 2000 - 2004 trucks, the F-150 7700 offered this axle and the F-250 light duty was discontinued. Gear ratios were 3.73 in 4x4 and either the 3.73 or 4.10 in the two wheel drive models.

I am having problems finding a true semi-floating axle. I drove two hours today to pick one up, got there and it was a full-float. I also am still looking for a clear answer on if I can put a 3.05 ring and pinion from a full-float 10.5 in the semi-float 10.25. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Curious as to why you want a semi-floating rear end?

I need to be able to retain the axleshafts internally. I am surprised that nobody has figured out my plan yet. :lookaround: I am not going to say too much yet until pieces start coming together or somebody figures it out.

The only reason I could think of is if you wanted to make an independent rear suspension. And if I remember right 10.25 parts will interchange with 10.5 stuff but not the other way around.

We have a winner! I am gathering parts to build an independent rear suspension for my track truck.
