Wish you had posted this up about a month ago... I ended up breaking up everything needed for the swap and selling it piece by piece, everything is gone now except the pedal box which is pending sale. Sorry man.

Not sure but I dont think a pcm swap is needed for a 96.
The only wiring on a ZF-5 is the reverse light.
You will be shifting the gears so what does the PCM care. Could cause a cell but Im sure your chip can be programed to take care of that.
NAPA has them for 325 97 model year if its a must. Good luck I like manual trucks myself.

Buddy did a auto to manual swap, the auto PCM worked fine with the stick. For the wiring you also have to jumper out the auto Transmission Position Sensor (TPS).

At the plug for the TRS:
Jumper W/Pk pin 5 to R/LB pin 8 for neutral start.
Backup lights are wired to P/O pin 2 and Bk/Pk pin 3, the other end to the backup light switch on the manual transmission.

You can't always go by the wire color, it seems to change from year to year. Just wired mine up yesterday and the neutral start wires were both R/LB. The easy way to find out is with the trans off, ohm out the MPLS. You will find ping 5/8 closed in park/neutral and pin 2/3 closed in reverse.

The auto Transmission Range Sensor (TRS or MLP) is mounted around the shift linkage shaft at the transmission. Follow the shifter cable to the transmission and the electrical harness to the transmission on the drivers side. The auto harness plugs into the TRS and the harness from the PCM. Don't have to do anything to the harness plug (for the auto solenoids) to the transmission on the passenger side except tape it up.
