Only way for me to get compression numbers is after I buy them but they'll be out of the truck. I'm not even sure you can do a compression test on an engine if it's sitting on an engine stand? Can't imagine I could get it to spin fast enough. Wouldn't be a bad ideal to do before I drop it in... -

They were definitely maintained. The hours just kind of scared me at first. And yes, lots of idle time. Just wanted some opinions before I pulled the trigger. I'm going to wait on the oil samples also. They are priced right though. -

I agree about the head gasket but I did read they were thinner in the international application. Didn't make any sense to me but I hear it a few times. Yes, it's a project but I'm sure I can handle it. -

I also wouldn't buy a used engine unless I could hear it run myself. Just way too much risk time to stuff an engine in a truck and not know if it was good. People are funny these days unfortunately. -

Finding a decent low mileage 7.3 powerstroke is not easy as you think as I've been looking. They still take a premium and most of them I can't hear run as they're already out of the truck. This one is running in the truck and was owned by a municipality with service records. -

Hpop is definitely bad as the engine was scanned. I have a well known injector rebuilder locally that scanned it and told me it's getting weak. I don't know the actual numbers as I don't own a scanner. The truck puts a ses soon light under hard acceleration or under a heavy load and... -
