I don’t believe you will lose power but gain crispness in injection causing a cleaner burn with a hybrid. 30 or 80 can do the job well but with **** tuning 30’s can be just as bad as bigger nozzles. What gear ratio and tire size? When you say lower rpm smoke how low are we talking? How much weight being pulled?

34” tires and 3.73’s. I tow anywhere from 5,000lbs to 20,000lbs. Most the time I’m in the 10-15,000 range. Also elevation plays a huge roll with my current issues. And my low rpm smoke is from take off to 1600….ish???

When I haul hay yes. I also have a brand new sxe 363/68 sitting in the box. Was even think of dropping the a 160/30 or 205/30 with that turbo. Gearing is an option I guess?

The 180/80 is oil hungry and is known to be hot and smokey so honestly if you change injectors the 200/30 or 200/80 hybrid is probably the best choice.

That my thought as well. I just don’t want to be disappointed in the power of the 30% and I hate to have the same smoke as my 180/80’s if I go 205/80. Tough call.

It’s kinda odd that a tuner and injector builder can’t get together and sell a solid/clean tow or street setup thats no fuss. International did it 20+ years ago? I just feel bad that people me included have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours to try and make more useful power outta these engines. I have talked to multiple tuners and they all agree stage 2 single are junk……..sooooo why do injector builders sell them??? It’s really sad but I guess that’s the industry. Sorry for the rant but it’s like a broken record and I for one keep drinking the cool aid.

If you switch to hybrids you are going to increase hpop oil which in turns means you’ll be able to run a bigger nozzle. If your current injectors won’t build and hold icp you either need to go with a bigger hpop system or change nozzles or switch to a more efficient injector or have them tuned to a lower pulse width. These are your options.

Many people have said they went with hybrids because they don’t have to upgrade there hpop system. Just saying.

Years and years ago people were running dual hpops on stock injectors and picked up power and drive ability. Definitely not how would do it but I bet they ran good.

I’ve only had experience with hybrids in 80% or 200% not 30’s. My 333k mile stock 7.3, no studs, no springs, stock turbo with a ported housing (only there to cure surge) 250/80 runs and drives like a stock truck in the tow setting. No smoke and won’t break 1050-1100 flat to the floor with any load. My wife can get in it and I don’t have to worry about it ending up in a ditch. Now the #6 setting smokes like a bitch but it’s going too. The economy setting doesn’t smoke but a little puff if I mash it from a dead stop and it’ll haze in 3-4 in the high rpm’s cause I’m running out of turbo.

Either way you will not be disappointed in a 205/30 or 238/80, just pick one and be happy. With your setup I would lean towards the bigger of the two but that’s my opinion. Best of luck

If I can find a load dyno I will see what I make in the tow and economy setting as that’s where my truck lives 99.99999999% of the time and I’ll report back.

There are many people that do exactly this. 1023, KC, Blessed Performance, Irate shows combos. They give break downs of what each does.

205/30s, s364.5sxe turbo, 4" exhaust, S&B intake, hydra w/ tunes of choice, gauges or monitor. Bigger hpop if needed and slight fuel system mods. Boom. Tow all day everyday at 375-400 hp and never pay attention to the gauges unless something sounds/feels wrong.

Great info thank you. But will the 205/30 make the same power as my current 180/80’s??? That’s my only concern

At a 205/30, but your comparing hybrids and A codes. They may make the same peak power but the hybrid will shine do to being more oil efficient. Now if you had enough oil to run the a code I think we would be having a different discussion and conclusion. IMO you either run a AC 160/0 or a hybrid period.
