How do you pressure test a turbo? how's the shaft play in the turbo?

The kind of oil it takes to get a run away should have smoked so bad they shut the truck off way before any other signs became obvious . I call BS sounds like the shop ***ed up bad.

I'm stuck in the middle of two people pointing fingers at each other.... I can't prove they did anything wrong and I can't prove the turbo is what caused it...

As well, I'd be asking to see the head gaskets out of the truck. It just seems more plausible to me that it is your issue. Trashed head studs is a hard one to follow

Your getting hosed

Filled the crankcase with water and ran away... Coolant doesn't lubricate well either

Kinda my thoughts as well. That truck would have had zero power and pouring grey smoke long before it ran away. Hope it works out. Buddies got a block if ya need it. Its in the for sale section-engine and drivetrain. I have a couple sets of turbos and most of all the stock stuff if needed

The truck has a Tow-Power Atmosphere. Tech is blaming the turbo. I asked if pre-oiled he said yes, then I said we could tell by looking at the seal if its burned then it wasn't pre-oiled, and then he was quiet. So that's tells me he's not being honest. I don't have any parts in my hands to diagnose what the issue was caused by but I get the gut feeling the tech is saying "Oh ****" and blaming anything he can other than himself. How do we know he wasn't on a WOT run? It would take a lot of oil to run away and the tech should have seen signs, like loads of white smoke before any run away. The turbo isn't snapped so how did it go from perfect to dumping so much oil it ran away and he didn't see any signs?? I could see it if the shaft snapped off and he kept driving but the shaft isn't broken. He said the turbo has oil in it, well with the stock CCV it would.

Especially if the crankcase was full of coolant.

I would hire a lawyer to be on the safer side but sounds like they should be looking for a motor.

That much coolant/oil wouldn't be from the turbo that's for sure.

Exactly.

The guy said the nuts for the head studs are stuck to the studs...and the head gaskets are ***ed... What's that tell ya?

Get the truck and your parts out of there get a lawyer and hope for the best...might need boots cuz the ****s going to get deep

With all that coolant/oil mix in the crank case, I'm sure a submerged crankshaft would throw coolant/oil out the ccv, into the turbo, and cause a runaway if it didn't choke it out, and hydrolock it. if there was no coolant in the oil before he started the project, it was probably due to improper (epic fail) head gasket install, allowing the coolant to just about drain straight into the pan. If it had coolant in the oil before he started the project he should've checked behind the water pump for front cover cavitation. It's fairly common to see cavitation bad enough that there's a hole that allows coolant to drain straight into the crank case. good luck pointing fingers.
