I used the factory orings, but used gobs and gobs of the Ford Grey RTV.

Of course this was with the pan off the motor.

Honestly for what the "special" kit from Strictly Diesel, just pull the motor and put a whole new pan on it. Its about the same price.

Thinking about just using gobs of rtv and not even unscrewing anything. My luck is that it'll fall into the pan and off that little brush and I'll be done for anyway. This Motor won't be in here forever anyway. Planning to start a small build next summer when the truck is paid off. I looked at it quick on the lift at the tire shop the other day but I got ushered out of the shop just as quick. I watched it today and it seems to be coming from either the top of or above the dipstick. Is that where they usually rot at? Checking a little more tomorrow morning. Hoping it's the vc gasket but I doubt it.

Mine the o-ring in the pan was bad, but the dip stick itself was leaking as well, rotted through in one small spot at the bottom.

Coming out of a spot on the left side of the plastic. Actual pan is not rotted through. So gobs of rtv on that spot it is after s thorough cleaning.

That's a Band-Aid that is hard to remove, and chances are it will leak around the Band-Aid. Spend the money on Guzzles kit, take your time and fix it right.

You will not be disappointed in the Diesel oring kit. I have done at least 10 using his kits. It is not hard, just take your time. I tied a 10' piece of wire to the brush in case I dropped it. Never did. I have tried the RTV. It simply doesn't work.

You are financing that heap?

Only for another 4 months. It's not as bad as everyone on here thinks it is. It's just a high mileage, northern truck and it needs original chit replaced. Over 220k miles now. Doesn't help that it may have had 30k mile OCIs by the PO and the PO through cheap China parts at it, which I'm still finding and having to fix. For the year and mileage it doesn't look as bad as some newer lower mileage stuff i see. Driver's seat isn't ripped, not a million stains everywhere, and I put good parts into thanks to everyone on here. Even though I say I'm just gonna throw rtv on it I'm probably not going to or I'll just end up learning the hard way that it won't work and I'll have to do it again.

Even if you leave the starter on I would still disconnect the batteries. I accidentally touched the positive lead on the starter with the dipstick tube when reinstalling, burnt right through it.
