On my way home the other night the truck just died for no reason while driving down the road. No CEL. Had it towed home.

I was able to mess with it and do some testing. I think that the HPOP is bad but want to confirm before I have to buy one.

What I found while cranking Engine RPM 150-175, ICP is 2-350 PSI, ICP DC is 64%.

After a really long crank with the battery charger on it I was able to get it to start, once started, Engine RPM 650, ICP psi 450, and ICP DC 64%.

I can rev the engine up and get My ICP psi to go up but my ICP DC stays at 64% all the time.

Once it stalled I was unable to get it to restart and end up with the same numbers above while cranking.

Also I checked the engine oil in the HPOP and its with in an inch from the plug, and the oil pan was low so I added oil to it.

Day two I pulled the IPR and cleaned inspect, made sure that the shuttle moved, tested the coil, then reinstalled.

The engine was cold, outside temp 0 degrees. The truck would start and run fine. ICP PSI 1000 while cranking. I let the engine run for awhile to let it warm up. Moved it around a little and it acted a little odd rpm and ICP would jump up and down. While it was running right I would step on the throttle and watch the ICP go to 2000+ psi a time or two didn't see any issues with building psi. It stalled and wouldn't restart. Bought a new IPR and installed. Ran truck around some more stalled, wouldn't restart. Engine now up to temp. Checked ICP psi 2-300 ICP DC 85% while cranking wont start.

My next step cap off the HPOP lines one at a time to figure which side to inspect, if no start cap both and see what ICP psi is at HPOP. If it starts with one side capped off pull corresponding VC.

When I pull the VC and look for leaks that will tell me that there is an injector leaking, pull inspect if orings are fine then the injector itself is bad correct?

Am I missing anything? Thanks Dave

Check the hpop reservoir BEFORE you start it in the morning, after its sat for a whil. If the injector o rings are shot, sometimes, the reservoir will bleed down over night.

Capping off the lines or pressure testing the rails(try to due it when the motors warm). Will tell you hpop or injectors.

More times than not, it will be the injector o-rings. Especially when the truck will crank cold but not warm. The cold thick oil won't push past the ring as easily allowing you to start. As soon as the oil warms and thins, your problems begin. Pulling the VC's will just about tell the story. If it's an o-ring, replace on all injectors. And don't skimp on the rings, but ford, international, or Alliant rings only. Rolling the dice with any other in my opinion.

Every time I've checked the HPOP res it's been full but I've checked each morning just in case something changes.

Yes my plan is to let the truck warm up and when it acts up to test the psi/pull vc's.

I've learned by watching others not to skimp on important parts so if it's orings all injectors will be replaced cause I don't like chasing things.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Appreciate it.

So this morning I gathered up the parts needed to plug each head and plug the pump. 180psi with each head plugged and with pump plugged so it looks like the pump is junk. Also I have a new IPR installed.

Also thanks for the link to the manual good info.

I haven't seen any brass in the oil while pulling off lines or IPR! Sounds like I should check the pump once it's out. Also pull my oil filter.

Lucky it's brass. Might need to send injectors to PIS or somewhere to get them cleaned if it ends up being a stuck poppet in any of them but it looks like it held 180. Maybe try higher is you have a pump that goes that high. There are ways to flush the hpo system. Your not the first with this issue do some searching or maybe someone will chime in that has had this problem

Yup it's the pump for sure just removed it and pulled the rear cover and found the bearing cage in pieces as well as brass in the screen/gasket for the HPOP. Now searching for ways to clean this all up. If injectors have 165K on them might be worth getting a new set?

Also who is PIS?

Again thanks for all the help

Performance injection systems they build injectors I have a set of 300/200 from them and they idle so smooth. Quality products if you search you can find some reviews. It's up to you if you have funds and want stg 1s or just fresh injectors then do it. Your getting up there in miles anyways
