My truck has had Rotella in it since it was new. I am the third owner. I ran it for the first 30K or so that I had it. Valvoline was on sale at O'Reillys once when I went in. Bought some. My truck liked it. On Rotella, if I went over 4K on it, I would start losing performance and it would start using it.
My last oil change, I just flat ass forgot. Couple weeks ago, we had a cold spell (25º). Started the truck, got about a half block down the road and it just fell on it's face and died, ICP was at zero. Let it set for a few minutes, fired up and ran. Went down to the parts house and got oil and a filter. I write the date and mileage on the oil filter when I change it. I had gone a couple hundred miles short of 10K on that oil change, drained out 12 quarts (I only put 14 in on a change). Oil was thick. If it had been summer or if I had been patient and let it warm up in the drive, it would have been fine. I am setting right at 311K on my truck now.
My conclusion: Rotella will not hurt your truck, but I am running Valvoline. Wish I could afford Sheaffers I would run it.
