I've towed over 12K with my 66, it takes some feathering of the throttle no doubt though. Its no tow monster but it does rip more than the stock turbo set up.

Have you validated it with dyno graphs? No doubt it comes on hard and fast when it comes on compared to stock, which comes on earlier, and more gradual, but I'd bet peak hp is very similar between the setups, just with a lot smaller window where power is made. If anyone has before and after dyno graphs, where the only change is stock turbos to this setup, we have validation, otherwise all we have is speculation, and the "feel" when the turbo lights.

If you want to know how a single 66 will drive, go unplug your stock VGT actuator, then your truck will behave similar to that kit, essentially becoming a 65 mm single. If you still like the way it drives with 10K behind it, then you're good to go.

Okay, I got you on that. I was just curious cause I dont have much experience with powerstroke performance. I had a 66 on my last truck (02 Dodge) and it was a pain to tow with. Thought there might be a different result with a powerstroke.

Its faster no doubt, spool up under normal driving is slower but if you floor it lites right away. I would gate it tough if I was to do it again as it will kick up over 60 PSI in OD and I think thats to much for that turbo and its also hard on HG for the non studded guys. I don't have graphs but I've owned the truck for over 5 years and it was a night and day difference as far as power goes. And the window of power is not as short as you think, but I'm at sea level so things are a little different than they would be in CO.

I believe that the 66 near sea level would be way better than it is here, especially after seeing the guys who came here for DPC, and how much worse it was for them up here. I suspect the 66 does do better than stock, but nobody has quantified it yet, which I would like to see.

^stock lol

Well i was referring to a single setup lol. I'm real big on the deep single turbo sound and like you guys said de-clustler-F'in under the hood. I Don't have a 6.4 6sp, but plan on getting one in the future and this budget kit is the bees knees. Now to pair a small enough turbo to spool for loads but big enough to have fun and get in trouble.
I'd think in our PSD world with hybrid injectors and a 38R (& supporting mods) making 500 horse on a 7.3 being non Vgt and ancient heui injection And still being a DD and tow rig, someone could find/build a perfect single turbo to match to a CR motor such as the 6.4 and do all that. Please correct me if I'm wrong somewhere cause I'm here to learn.

I'd like to see that as well

I've done that and my 80mm doesn't even feel anything near that bad...

That's because you don't have another turbine housing in front of it making a bit of a skewed feeling. But it gives people a general idea how its going to run

Fwiw Craig is towing king kong in a huge enclosed trailer to TS with an f450 with 4.88 with a single 472, 60% nozzles and an II pump. But I think the low gearing keeps the turbo lit up

I can't even think about towing with my truck. Thing is a smoky pig with the single and 60% nozzles and the egts can maintain 1200 unloaded up hills. I need to get whatever tuning he has! LOL

Its a little more then just skewed. The vgt housing is pretty large when the vgt is unhooked (open) . I have driven with it unhooked, at sea level with 40 degree temps and it sucked. Couldnt get out of its own way unless you were at speed. On the other hand ive been in single turbo trucks and its nothing like that, from what i felt and saw smoke wise.

Other than sound or going for big power i guess I don't quite understand the single kits? Whats your just reasoning for wanting them?

I am just going from my experience with stock fuel and Elite 71. But I was towing today around town and on the highway @ 25k gcgvw with the Spartan 275 tune. Egt under 1100, instant spool at any rpm, Stock replacement with no mods. Simple, easy. Yesterday I was running around on the Spartan 310 tune with 600+hp.

I feel like some people get stuck with the "cool different idea" or something like that. I understand if your goal is 700+hp, then its a very cheap power maker. I am not trying to down the idea. I am just more interested in peoples goals and reasons.

Peak power, singles seem to make it big time. I don't know what everyone hears when listening to a single in a 6.4. I think the exhaust note is horrible and sounds tingey or metal sounding. I have never liked the sound of them, and I know I am in the minority.

Im betting its the gearing that makes it work to be honest. Tuning helps too but its not the end all be all.

I would like to see how the truck does, everyones opinion on what works is different than the others, its always good to take a ride in someones truck and see how it is before making the dive

BACK TO THE TOPIC i think that for most people looking to do a single turbo this is the way to go, not having to mess with uppipes cab on ect is a big plus, its basically the same thing i made for my crew cab a couple years back, simple and effective...

I like the idea because turbo changes seem to be pretty easy, turbos are also much easier to get a hold of if a problem does come up. With the budget kit, can change back to stock if nessecary fairly easily. I'll hopefully pick one up soon, just don't know if I want to go 66 or 72.
