The Banks intake and edge box says enough about the person who made this video. Also he is making a video of how to make a smoke switch...

But I dont know why anyone would do this. seems to me it might disrupt the airflow into the turbo.

I dont see how grinding it off is going to make it efficiently better? It would direct air many different ways if you did that correct?

He says it late in the video that his next video will be how to make a smoke switch. And my wording was bad. I'm with you on thinking that grinding it off would make it worse. As in removing the silencer ring might disrupt the airflow into the turbo. (thinking velocity stack)

I thought that was a cummins thing also I did see it in a magazine artticle about a older cummins it increased flow was there explanation

While i do not agree that this would cause an increase in HP, but many cummings guys remove them and many turbos are made without a silencer ring. Like so
