I am on the highway in Texas, just getting into San Antonio, and the I-10 takes a 90 degree turn to the right, and the speed lowers to 25 MPH, then resumes 60 MPH. I accelerated with traffic, and she went into 5th, the TC locked, and it went back into 4th... I thought it was 3rd, but I shifted down to "3" on the column, and it downshifted further, then back to "D" and it shifted back up to 4th... Would not get into 5th...

I was running IDP Xtreme X, with firmer shifts, stock lock for the trans. Trans is Sun Coast Iron Pac, with trans go shift kit, Billet input shaft, and RCD converter.

Temps were normal, around 172 cruising across I-10 at about 71 MPH. After the 4th gear deal, I slowed down, and the temps climbed up to 201... Still not bad, but def higher than they should be, as it is 76 here in SA... As soon as I pulled over, and idled for a few minutes, temps were quickly back down to 160. I did over fill the trans by about 1/2 a quart back in FL. (Not paying attention to what I was doing... ) I pushed out a little fluid, but not a broken line or anything, it was from on top of the trans, so, the over flow valve is doing it's job... Fluid did not smell even the slightest bit burnt, and I called Ben, and tried driving again, and she hit 5th as normal... Then, turn around on the same road, 4th gear again.... Ben suggested return to stock, then re load tune, and take her around the block again... I am about to get her down the road and see if she works....

You can also just clear dtcs with the livewire and resart the truck and it should work - I had it happen often when my stocker was on its last leg. These damn 5rs and electrical issues!!

10-4 keep us informed bud.
She is all good. Fluid temps and levels are straight. Drove easy, shifted crisp, all the way to OD with TC locked, same with driving a bit harder, and same with WOT from the light... LOL

Currently running Xtreme X, with firmer delay for the trans.

And Josh, I wasn't getting any DTCs at all... Tell me about it... LOL And mine better not be on it's last leg... I just paid 4 K for it and the TC.... LOL

the over flow valve is doing it's job...
There is no overflow valve on any Ford transmission. There is a vent on top, but it's job is only to vent pressure, not remove overfills. It won't just remove the overfilled amount, it will let any fluid that can get up there out of the trans.

If the trans is filled correctly no fluid goes up there. Only when it's overfilled and the fluid has foamed into uselessness will it come out of the vent.

I had this happen to me a few times. If you press tow/haul at around 60-65mph on my truck it would shift into od for me. It was very weird when it first happened. Im gonna re-tune in next time i drive the truck and see what happens.

Yeah, thats what I meant to say, but I was unloading, and typing, and reloading tunes...

Any input on why my trans was stuck in 4th gear?

My old trans gave your truck a disease ..lol. Mine has done it a few times also.

I hope not... LOL She is doing great up to now, and after reloading tunes, she is hammering again. Did you fix it in a similar manner?

BTW, I got that bracket for your trans. It is in Crestview, if you need it before I get back to town.

Just occurred to me after talking with Aaron... What tuning was everyone running when they had this 4th gear issue? I was running IDP V3.03. Just kinda wanting to see if it an isolated issue or a commonly occurring thing...

Plus, if you don't mind, list your mods on your trans when this happened.

Mine did it on KEM345 , a reload or sometimes just turning off the truck would fix it
It will be a week or 2 before I need it. When you coming back?

I was running Custom SCT tunes when it happened, these 5R110's are goofy on the electronic side of things.

my truck is totally stock and i have had the trans stick on me a few times, and its happened just like it did when you were driving: runnin along the freeway doin 60-65, all of a sudden everyone puts up the breaks so I follow suit, droppin down to 40-35 maybe, then immediately it lets up and we're all back to 65, but when I hit the gas again, i get a thud after the truck hesitates for a second. and its not a engine hesitation... i can tell its tryin to shift and then POP it does. freaks me out. thought it was this damn truck just learning my driving style (i'm not hard on her, just new to driving a heavy ass truck).
