So, my new F250 was stolen last week. Its recovered now, but IMO it is thrashed. Some may not agree, but for a brand new truck, its sickening. The point of this post is to ask about tips in dealing with the insurance company in getting the truck back in condition that it was stolen in.

My expectation is this. With the condition the seats are in and all the trim pieces and plastic (not even including the exterior), I would expect the insurance company to not refurbish, but replace with OEM parts. Theres no reason I should I have to deal with an interior that stinks of weed and has been abused. I could have bought used and saved myself some money, if that didnt bother me.

Ive got a message into Sunrise Ford right now, hoping they can get me a little bit of a discount to leave room for replacement parts that they arent going to budge on. They agreed to paint the inside of the bed, but rhino lining would be cheaper. almost $100 cheaper. So we're going that route.

Anyhow... any tips would help. Thank you.

Truck had 3600 miles on it when I parked it. Currently sits with 4300 miles on it right now.

They dont know how it got stolen yet. I talked to one of the managers at the local dealership, and he was telling me a little bit about how they do it. He said they jam a screwdriver in the driver's door lock, and unseat the tumbler. When the tumbler unseats, it turn and unlocks the door. The computer thinks its a key, so the alarm disarms. He said they take the same screwdriver and jam the ignition. Start it and go. Im not sure how the chipped key gets bypassed, but it worked for these guys. My insurance is being pretty savvy about it. They are issuing me new keys and re-keying the truck. I also mentioned that the owner's manual was stolen, so theres a possibility they still have the code for my door pad. They have not given me a solution for that yet.

Im going to try and look past everything, and hopefully it doesnt taint my view of the truck. Im so particular about my vehicles though, that I may just end up selling it and buying a new one. Only time will tell I suppose.

This Platty was stolen in my town three weeks before mine, using the same technique, from what Im told. I looked inside it yesterday, and the key operates the ignition perfectly. So damage to tumblers is minimum. I posted on Facebook hours after I discovered the truck stolen, and over 200 people shared my post. A picture of this truck was sent to me, before it was found. My truck enters the dealership, then this one the same afternoon. Crazy.

They must have changed the PATS system for the worse then because that won't fly on a 6.4!

It won't fly on a 6.7L either. I've tried to "cleverly" trick my truck into starting with a blank after opening with a key fob. It will start and run for a super short period of time then shuts back down. Almsot just like if you try to put the truck in gear after a remote start.

The hacker/jackers must have a "computer key signal generator"

Underground these things are very easy to come by. I'm not saying it's not possible. However simply "stealing" a new truck is next to impossible unless you have the proper keys.

I looked into this when a shady local said his truck was stolen. 2013 f250.

God I would pay MONEY to see someone start my truck with a screwdriver, seriously. Sorry but no, not buying it.

I cant tell you how they did it, Im not very well versed in this. According to the police department and insurance company, there is a slew of these trucks being taken right now. So whatever they did, it worked for them.

The back tires were not burned off, and its all pretty much cosmetic damage. The gauge cluster does show the transfer case in 4LO, and the switch indicates 2H. Being that we found it high centered, makes me a little worried about the integrity of the drivetrain. the hill that led up to the point of being stuck, had tire tracks that showed the truck coming up the hill, tires spinning and sideways. they drove the piss out of it.

Do you have auto start in your truck? I know back in Detroit if you have auto start they can steal it because when you get some aftermarket auto starts they make a copy of the chip key and stuff it under our dash which is close enough to start. So using a screw driver makes it easy to start.

Ask the insurance company if you agree to let them fix it however they wanted, would they, in turn, allow you to go buy a new one, exactly like it and they cover the difference in "loss" on your trade that you'd suffer (minus your mileage that you put on it) from trading it in. That would save you from potential future damage, any carfax problems in the future when you sell/trade it, and the "mental distress" :) of having to always wonder what is ahead with this truck. I mean, let's face it, it'll bother you everytime you drive it knowing that someone did that. Probably a loooooong shot, but maybe they'd go for it just to close out the claim.

After all.........it's not YOUR fault your vehicle was stolen, so why should you suffer the REAL loss and just have to live with it?

What insurance do you have? Was the truck stolen while parked at the dealer?

I have state farm as my insurance carrier. It was stolen in front of my house.

It doesnt seem like thats incredibly unfair, from a consumers point of view. From a business point of view, im sure that wouldnt be very economical. But hell, I guess it wouldnt hurt to ask. Especially since im being so picky. Lol
