I believe craig got KK running and it made 3 WOT passes before the 5r exploded a few days ago. Maybe 2 runs

Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Input shaft and converter is what I heard... again no different than a 4r

josh I think there is still some to be desired on shift quality with a 5r but honestly its not that bad. Most of its relearn than anything

comverter lock up is still my battle but I feel its something simple that's overlooked.

Mike is right at some point no trans will live

Fwiw im not saying 4rs dont work ect. They do because they are proven time and time again to run 9s no problem. I just dont see many 6.4s actually justifying the swap. Imho you have to be at the strip allot to really care.

I want craig to hook that pcs to the 5r... that should help things

3 speed lol

Yeah, even the white H&S 6.7 with a 4r had problems and that truck is some lighter. They swapped most everything from the white truck to Zane's old lightning trying to lighten it up to try and keep a trans in it.

Where has the white truck been? Out of commission since early in the year. It wasnt at Ennis. Zanes old truck was with a 6.7 with a 4r and a pcs.

Peyton's truck twisted a input shaft last year iirc. They've been waiting on a armemt shaft to be cut for it to get back up and running. The real reason they swapped had more to do with race weight and not having anything to to take down the track at worlds. The lightning was a perfect choice for that nasty powerplant.

Pretty much what I said. To get it to the track and try to lighten it up. Transmissions issues and to lighten it up.
Have you guys seen the H&S truck lately? It's black, short bed, 2wd and a 95 Ford Lightning...

Surprise!!!! lol

Transmission issues ultimately signed the demise of their white truck earlier this year, primarily due to HP vs weight & speed goals.

Has anyone got cruise control working on a 6.4 with a 4r? That would be a huge drawback to me. The main complaint of a 5r compared to 4r is interference shifting. With good tuning it s not much of a problem until you start knocking on 10 second 1/4 mile times. Then the simplicity of the 4r has more appeal, even though it's been proven that a 5r CAN run in the 9's. Allison also has interference shifting, but you don't see too many trucks swapping it out for something else because you need a REALLY fast truck to justify the change. At that point, you still fight shafts (at least on 4&5r's) as the weak link, so for a dedicated race truck, you might as well put your big boy pants on, and do a real race trans. I totally see the point of companies who build performance transmissions to use them in shop race trucks for r&d though so nobody needs to get their panties in a bunch. I'm not telling anybody what to do, just sharing my observations.

It had one issue that I know of and that was a weak input. The transmission in that truck has done its job for a long time now at a heavy race weight. Far far better than the junk it had.

I would agree. Way better than the 68 that was not in it for too long. Went straight from a 68 to a 4r. Didnt even give the 47/48 a shot lol.

You don't replace junk with junk when you are wanting to be consistent at the track

Tell Milliken that one lol. I think the 47 he is going with will do fine. Much better than what he has been running for a dedicated truck.

You mean Tom Cruise.

I'm sure with enough money, parts, time and tuning, he will get it down. I just love how simple and easy a 4r is for racing. I would never put one behind my street truck though. The 5r has come a long way since we did the 4r swap in Craig's heap of fast.

My BTS 4R is going in this month, I should be at or over 1000hp at the wheels ad I will be shooting for 10 seconds, mine is one of the first with Brians aermett shafts so we will see how it does. I went with the 4R because Craig was having good luck with it, it is fully adjustable with the PCS and it was about 2k cheaper than a built 5R. we'll see how it goes.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the great discussion! Its nice to read and learn from you folks that are more involved with the performance scene directly, and I know how controversial this topic can be, so again, I appreciate it!

thats all, carry on!

Soooo, are there any 6.4's running a 4r with functional cruise, and no dash lights on? I ask because I have not dealt with any 4r swaps directly, and that would drive me crazy on a daily driver. No biggie on a race truck though
